In a startling revelation, new federal statistics have unveiled a significant surge in illegal immigration from India across the US southern border, with a staggering 42,000 individuals intercepted

over the past year.

These figures, recently disclosed by the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), represent more than a twofold increase from the preceding year's data. During this period, Indian nationals attempting to cross the border had already reached a record high, numbering around 20,000.

What's even more astonishing is that an additional 1,600 Indian immigrants managed to cross from the northern border, marking a fourfold increase compared to the numbers from the previous three years combined.

To put this surge into context, since 2007, the total annual illegal border crossings from India had exceeded 5,000 only four times.

CBP's annual encounters along the US-Mexico border exceeded 2 million in the past year, signifying that Indian migrants constituted just under 2 percent of this substantial sample.

This surge in immigration from India has led to a surge in asylum-seekers as most Indian nationals turn themselves in to Border Patrol upon arrival due to the instability surrounding India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. Photo by Amyyfory, Wikimedia commons.
