Joe Biden has won the South Carolina Democratic primary with an overwhelming victory, securing all 55 pledged delegates. With little competition within his party, Biden pledged to defeat

Republican Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

This primary marked the first official Democratic primary ahead of the upcoming presidential election. Marianne Williamson and Dean Phillips, the other Democratic candidates, trailed far behind Biden, each securing only 2% of the votes. South Carolina's significant black population played a crucial role in securing Biden's nomination in 2020, and he expressed gratitude to black voters, stating, "You're the reason I'm president," during a rally in January.

Biden formally announced his 2024 re-election bid in April 2023, emphasizing the pivotal moment the country is facing, and he pushed for changes in party rules to ensure South Carolina's role as the first state in the nomination process, aiming to reflect the diversity of the Democratic Party.
