The nation faces its 17th day without a House Speaker, causing legislative gridlock with significant repercussions. For instance, President Joe Biden's proposed aid package for conflicts in Israel

and Ukraine remains stalled in the House, and negotiations to avert a shutdown before the November 17 deadline cannot proceed.

After a third vote, House Republicans have yet to resolve their internal conflicts. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, was once again nominated for the speakership by the GOP, while House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries received the nomination from the Democrats. Jordan faced strong opposition from 25 GOP lawmakers, with no signs of compromise. Furthermore, Jordan has already lost two previous speaker votes.

Closed-Door Meeting of House Republicans Following Jordan's third defeat, House Republicans are convening behind closed doors at 1 p.m. on Friday.

Eight GOP Lawmakers Willing to Accept Consequences On the steps of the Capitol, five out of the eight GOP lawmakers who voted to oust McCarthy have offered to accept punishment from the rest of the House GOP conference in an attempt to appease Jordan's holdouts. Reps Eli Crane, R-Ariz., Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., Bob Good, R-Va., Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., and Nancy Mace, R-S.C., are prepared to face potential consequences, including removal from committee assignments, censures, and exclusion from the conference.

Jordan Loses Third Vote for House Speaker In the third speaker vote, Jordan failed to secure enough support and saw a decline in backing among House Republicans. Much like the second ballot, his opposition grew, this time to 25 members, casting doubt on Jordan's path to the speakership. It remains uncertain whether a fourth vote will occur and whether lawmakers will continue working through the weekend.
